I know of several shops ordering thru oeconnection, and the consensus is that it's much better than before, the positive is that the dealers have a tool to be somewhat competitve in price with a variety of sheetmetal.
The benefits listed by OE-CONNECTION are more accurate and faster parts orders.
We really didn't notice that to be true.
What we use every day, all day is the abillity to price match. That is, the dealer can substitute many of the aftermarket, reconditioned and even used parts for new OEM parts. These parts will be changed in retail and cost figures so the shop makes at least the same amount as they would with the other part.
This is a win / win suituation. The shops gets all the benefits of using a new part, the vehicle owner gets new parts installed, the dealer makes a sale and the insurance gets new parts at the reduced rate.
We started out using OE-CONNECTION, but most of the dealers in our area have stopped using OE-CONNETION and ask us to just fax the estimate to them as we were doing before and they have continued to price match.
VW is now on OE-CONNECTION but we cant find a dealer that will go on the program.
OE-CONNECTION doesn't have a charge to the shops, but there is a charge to the dealers and the dealers also complain about the additional effort needed on their part.
If you aren't on OE-CONNECTIOIN you need to do it. Its easy on your end and will love the price match bennefit.
What is the deal with Toyota's, I have noticed that they want shops to use their unique parts ordering system? They say they can do some price matching with this system. I was told that Mopar dealers need a fax copy or the oeconnection to match some prices, in your opinion what oem is the best at price matching??

Thanks
Roger,
In our area the best OEM's for price matching are Chrysler and GM.

Technology works when it solves problems and streamlines a process. I'm not sure that in this case oeconnection accomplishes that. From a shop perspective, it's just another step. However, if it can aid the vendor in their distribution and reduce returns, then I can see the benefit. However, I don't see the dealers jumping up and down about that either. So, I wonder who it was really designed to benefit? It seems like another tool that is intended to drive sales at some level rather than value at all touch points. Again, the "smart" guys in the industry fail to recognize how to create a value-based relationship.

Make it a great day!
Roger:
If you are using the ProfitNet Management System then OEC is fully integrated in the parts ordering process. Using OEC with participating dealers allows you to electronically send parts orders directly into the dealer parts computer system eliminating the need for tje parts guy to manually enter every part number on your PO. OEC also provides a VIN # and part # scrubbing to ensure the proper part number is shipped. Contact your local DuPont rep or jobber for info on ProfitNet or go to profitnet.dupont.com and click on the parts section for a demo.
