Waterborne paint
we are using dupont paint thinking about switching to akzonobel waterborne but we might go with the dupont waterborne has anybody used either one of these that might help us make our decision. any imput would help

Do your research before you make a move to water.
Water technologies are not all the same.
Apples, oranges and pears are all fruit but are far from the same thing.
Change should be made to gain one or more benefits or to meet requirements.
As long as you are not being forced to change you have time to make sure you are doing the right thing that offers benefits.
I am the Territory Manager for PPG in Northern Michigan. I spend alot of time working with our water product as well as learning the ins and out of my competitor's product. PPG is having excellent results with our PPG Envirobase HP and Nexa Aquabase Plus. These are third generation products for PPG. Color match and overall productivity is better than solvent technologies. Water is the first product I present to high productivity collision centers.

We are getting ready to convert to BASF Diamont Onyx. My painters have been to school, we took the I-CAR class, and I think we have made the right choice. We are converting for productivity and local; leadership reasons.

Today we successfully completed the conversion and painted our first cars with excellent results. Yes, the SOP's are a little different, but relatively easy to adapt to. From here on it will just take repetition to dial in the techniques. The paint company and local jobber tech reps have been on site as coaches, which helped a great deal.

I have on demoed the Dupont waterborne but found it really good, the 1 1/2 spray and walk away application I really liked. I will be going with BASF, likely RM Onyx. I don't think you could go wrong with either line but I don't know much about Akzo, except there the only one I know of with a waterborne clear. (and experimental UV gun/clear).

In our area that we serve there is one shop on DuPont water and one on Akzo maybe 5 or so in Onyx from BASF and the majority of shops a total of 35 are all on PPG Environbase. My suggestion is to try and spray them all, there are differences between them. Not all water base products are the same. Shelf life, pot life, ease of use, color match, blending and cost all must be taken into consideration along with training and technical help with the product. Good luck with your decision.

We are getting ready to switch to duponts waterborne and have been using dupont for 6 years and the help is great but it could be the area who knows but im excited for the change cause it sounds like it will be less time spraying color. should be a good move after awhile with it.

Where are you from and who is your rep? Our rep is not giving us alot of help in this decision making. On the other hand PPG has taken us to their school and let us actually spray the product.

Do yourself and your repair facility a favor and use PPG Envirobase HP. It's the best water by far and I have used/sprayed them all. Good luck...

We use Sherwin Williams waterborne. We have had excellent support from their sales rep. The only issue we have had has been with a few of the color matches. But the sales rep came on site to help sort it out. We had our own learning curve adjusting to the new paint booth and equipment as well as mixing our own paint all firsts. Through it all the rep at Sherwin Williams has been available to help sort it out. We knew the rep from our previous location and told him we wanted to do waterborne moving into the new facility. We are a small single location independent shop and at the time we were 1 of 2 spraying waterborne in Arkansas. Don't regret it.

we went water 4 months ago (envirobase) with good results. the color match is better but its definitly harder to spray, I think it will weed out the novice painters and the true professionals will love it.
