What is the best procedure and product for removing buffer swirl?

This question has come up in the student group and from some of the hobby crowd at recent car shows. 

What's the best procedure and is there a perfect product?

Where I work we use the new 3M Perfect It system with great results. Personally I like Meguiars compounds and glazes they work great even on black.
