This article comes from a manufacturing perspective, but I agree with the point that it can sometimes be easier to make the culture change in small companies.  What do you think?

I agree with you Megan smaller companies have an advantage of being able to make changes on the fly if the owner / CEO are driven to make “Lean” happen. Where I see the Collision Repair industry fail on “Lean” is the owner / manager buys in to the theory of “Lean” but fail to visually communicate it to their employees.
I work with collision shops every day on “Lean” practices / processes and I am also a former Painter, Body Tech, Owner and the reason I and most people make the collision repair industry their career is for the fact they get that visual reward of seeing a fully repaired vehicle; we are visual learners. With that said I see owners / managers that can communicate in a highly visual way succeed and sustain “Lean” process faster.
Marty, you make a great point. As they say..."a picture is worth a thousand words..."
