What Can Your Body Shop Learn From LeBron James?

What can body shop owners learn from LeBron James?Any thoughts on what the most active water cooler buzz was about recently? World events? Global warming? The BP oil debacle? Not so much … Arguably the biggest question on the tip of everybody’s tongue a few months back was where NBA all star LeBron James would end up?While the rest of the NBA’s free agents had their people release their future…See More

My Blog Has a First Name ... It's B.R.A.N.D. ....

In the old days ... that is, before the web and more recently social media ... choosing the name for your business was a simple matter. Now in charge of your own destiny, you set off for the local print shop to buy your first business cards and maybe some flyers and post cards. "Bob's Plumbing Service", you proudly said to the typesetter ... "Serving the Metro…See More

Bed Bugs, Cold Food and Bent Sheetmetal ... Going after the Thin Market (your customer).

Collision repair is what we call in the ad biz ... a thin market. That is, on any given day there are only a finite number of people that will have a need for our service. Unfortunately, we do not know who those people are, or will be.We do know that on average, people have an accident about every 7-10 years ... so that narrows it down a bit. But it also means that we have a shorter sales cycle than say ... a mattress company. The sales cycle there can be an astonishing 15 years! (OK stop…See More

Shoot a Duck!

You've heard the old saying ... "Shoot where the ducks are flying"? Well, as it relates to advertising, in essence it means spend your money where it will do the most good. Think long and hard about a $10,000 trade show expense if you won't see a speedy return on the investment. Watch out for those $100-300 sponsorship opportunities too ... they add up pretty quick.

Should you spend money on marketing? well, Hell YES ... just think about these two things when you write the check ...… Continue

Get STICKY!

Sticky that is ... in marketing speak. Sticky is a term we use to describe how memorable something is .. like a tag line. Just Do It. That was pretty sticky for the folks at Nike ... or Got Milk? for the Dairy Board. On that note, and as a word of free advice ... stop reusing the Got ... anything, it has now officially become the most plagiarized tagline in advertising history and has begun to have a subliminally negative effect on those silly enough to try to reinvent it for actual marketing… Continue
