I just wanna do cars….

OK, I don’t get it.

For six years, I’ve worked with a company that provides a guaranteed method that will add dollars to the bottom line of every estimate. And for six years, I’m continually stunned by the stubborn unwillingness of estimators (and body shop owners) to use it.

The most common refrains are “I know how to write an estimate” or “I’ll never get paid for that.” It is my belief that if you’re performing an operation on a vehicle, it should be on the estimate.… Continue

You must persist to succeed!

Have you ever felt like giving up? Have you ever been so frustrated that you questioned yourself as to why you continue? You’re not alone. Many of the great successes in life and in business have endured setbacks and failures along their way to success. One attribute of the most successful people in life and in business is persistence.

Let me mention a few “failures” you might recognize.

Dr. Seuss’s first children's book, was rejected by 23 publishers. The 24th publisher… Continue

Career Class Today

This morning I had another opportunity to address a summer school class at one of our local high schools. The session was interactive and there were about 20 students in the class. How does a body shop owner go about getting to speak in a classroom of any high school or college?

I had been trying to get into the high school driver ed classes for years with limited success and even less enthusiasm on the school's part. The only time they ever needed us was when there was an inservice day,… Continue

Fore!

This are lots of ways to network in your business community. Lots of folks getting together in order to grow relationships in many different ways. Some of those may be through networking meetings (in person no less!), chamber of commerce mixers, and of course golf outings. I used to volunteer at a hole and got to meet a lot of people for about 1 minute each, not very memorable for any of us. Then someone suggested I play in an outing. Well the last time I picked up a golf club (aside from… Continue

What's In A Word? (Password That is.)

Recently, I had a client who had their server hacked. We knew this because the home page on every computer changed to some bank in Germany. The hacker’s goal was to have a bank customer login to my client’s hacked computer and reveal their account numbers and passwords. The value of an invaded computer is that the hacker is not easily traced. I won’t spend time on the how and why hackers do these things. I think our time is better spent on how to prevent this from happening to your… Continue
