Is anyone using gas fired infrared drying? Are you getting energy use cost reductions? Does it help cycle time?

Les & Bill,
Thank you for the feedback. I am asking specifically about paint drying. Have a great day.

Les, We have had the gas fired infrared shop heaters here for years too, like the rest of the world. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the subject was about curing units in the booth. As far as shop heaters are concerned, I agree with you 100%. The infrared tubes are the way to go as long as you have adequate ceiling height to use them.

We have had gas fired infrared heaters in our buildings for several years. I also had experience with them in an auto dealership that I managed 20 years ago.
I don't have any hard dollar figures to give you as far as savings, but I can tell you I wouldn't use anything else.
These heaters will heat objects first instead of relying on heaters to heat the surounding air and then the air heats the objects. Opening and closing garage doors is hardly noticed with the infrared heaters. Cycle time is helped by faster primer and bondo drying and technition comfort.

Thank you Bill. Technology is available in Europe in response to environmental and energy reduction demands. Good luck with the Uncle!

My booth uses a gas fired burner and my gas bill can run as high as $2700 per month in the Winter to process 60 vehicles, plus or minus. It definitely helps with cycle time, but if Uncle Obama's administration passes the Cap and Trade bill or some sneaky, back door variation of it, my burners will be disabled and Nature will just have to take it's course. I was not aware that such a thing as gas fired infrared existed. I have only seen the electric variety, but then I am in Mississippi so we are often the last to get the memo.
