Over the past several years we discovered an unfortunate circumstance occurring with the following vehicle lines: The Escalade, Yukon, Denali, Sierra, Suburban and Rendezvous dash wiring harnesses. An electrical overload has been occurring on the power outlets and cigarette lighter circuits. The locations of these components are very susceptible to spills, loose change, hairpins, children’s toys, etc. The result is a blown fuse or a slow overheating of the circuit and thereby melting the insulation and shorting across wire bundles inside the harness.

There are a few precautionary steps that can be taken:

• Try not to over accessorize. Limit the power draw or eliminate heavy users such as power converters, laptop chargers, etc and remove the device when finished.
• Ensure the receptacle is covered. Re-install the cigarette lighter or cap.
• Do not use a larger rated fuse in place of the blown circuit protector.
• Pay close attention to recalls for your make and model.

Most of these harnesses are becoming, if not already, obsolete. If you do fall victim to or have any questions in regards to this subject or harness processing feel free to comment or call 877-7AERO-US and visit our website www.aeromotive.us Your feedback is very important in isolating problem areas such as this, as well as, other items of interest.
