Committee Removes Steering Provision from Model Act

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 8, 2010 – The National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) has opted to delay making a decision on its Model Act Regarding Motor Vehicle Crash Parts and Repair. The Property and Casualty Insurance Committee decided to move any further decisions on the Model Act to its summer meeting in Boston. The Automotive Service Association (ASA) submitted testimony in opposition to the Model Act Friday, March 5, 2010.

The committee also removed the provisions titled "Choice of Repair Facility," which was the committee's attempt to address insurer steering practices, from the Model Act. This provision will be addressed by the committee in a separate Model Act during the NCOIL summer meetings.
